A few thoughts on the first days at home....
Lara an I both are in awe of everything that has happened in the past six days: the birth itself, the ineffable miracle of life, the reality of parenthood. I look at Lincoln periodically and, as if awakened from sleep to find my dream before me, I am struck by the joyous recognition that he is my son: perfect, beautiful and unique in all the world. To see him cradled in his mother's arms is the most beautiful sight I have ever seen.
Of course, all is not wine and roses (or, thanks to my Dad, Port and Irises). To wit, the last night in the hospital and the first two nights at home gave us little rest and much anguish. They were, in short, the nights that everyone told us we would have. We survived in large part thanks to my sister (Tia Carolyn) who is a natural caretaker and stayed with us those first two nights at home. She knew just when to show up in the bedroom to change a diaper or sooth a crying Lincoln (or parent). Happily, after these three rough nights, we applied some lessons learned (from tough experience and Lincoln's Aunt Steph) and have been able to get about 6 hours sleep (in two-hour chunks) each of the past two nights. How strange it seems that, just last week, 6 hours of sleep was a bad night's sleep.
A big hug from Tia Carolyn
Shirley is here for two weeks and is taking every opportunity to hold the little one and has given us both a sense of comfort and confidence as we move forward into this new chapter in our lives together.A quiet moment with Nagymama
Finally, thanks to everyone for the comments on the previous posts. We have loved reading them and have done so over and over.
One proud Taid on the day Lincoln came home.
